Corrections
How to report an error, and what the desk does with the report.
If we get something wrong, we fix it in the open.
Report an error
Send the story, the line you believe is wrong, and what the record shows, through the Contact page. Reports go to the editor.
What happens next
The editor reviews the report against the story's sources. If the story is wrong, the correction is appended to the story itself as a dated note saying what changed and why. The original wording is not quietly rewritten — published pages are never edited in place to hide a mistake.
On the Breaking Desk, corrections are handled the same way, in the open: a correction is a new, dated block on the story under the wire editor's initials, and the social desk posts the correction as its own post — never a quiet edit.
