About The Mother Lode
What this publication is, who makes it, and how a story gets from the wire to this page.
The Mother Lode is the news desk of CalculateMine, published by Re4rge. It covers the entertainment business and the numbers inside it — Hollywood, music, Broadway, games, and the making of all four — in three editions a day: Morning, Midday and Evening.
Around the editions sits the Breaking Desk, which runs around the clock. Its wire is swept every 30 minutes, and a sentinel checks the top wires every 5 minutes for emergencies.
No ads, no placement
The Mother Lode carries no advertising and sells no placement in its pages — no sponsored stories, no paid positions in its lists. It is brought to you free by Re4rge and CalculateMine. Readers who want to chip in can use the coffee jar linked at the foot of every page.

On the Breaking Desk: Nina Voss, breaking reporter; Ray Kowalski, wire editor; Tess Okafor, social editor.
How a story gets here
Sources give the desk facts — never their words. Every story is written by the writer named on it, from the fact set the wire filed, and the sources are named at the foot of the story. Deaths, verdicts, charges and named accusations need two independent sources before they can publish. Our writers are disclosed house personas; the standards they work to are on the Editorial Policy page.
