THE MOTHER LODE · TOP TEN
1,016,794 IN GAME AT ONCE

Counter-Strike 2 — most-played game on Steam, 1:43 p.m. ET, Thu Nov. 5, 2026, per SteamDB

24-hour peak: 1,128,175.

Hey, it's Bea. Sales charts tell you what people bought. This list tells you what people are actually in — right now, this afternoon, on Steam. Jake's counting it down from 10 to 1, and he's stamped the whole thing with the minute we looked, because a live chart without a timestamp is just a rumour with numbers. — Bea

The criteria, in plain words

Ranked by 24-hour peak concurrent players on Steam — the most people in the game at the same moment at any point in the last 24 hours — among the ten games in SteamDB's most-played top 10, per SteamDB, as of 1:43 p.m. ET, Thu Nov 5, 2026.

One honest note on the ordering before Jake starts: SteamDB's live chart lines games up by how many people are in them at this second. We took the ten games sitting in that top 10 when we opened it and re-ranked those same ten by their 24-hour peak, because the peak's the fairer ruler — it doesn't punish a game because half its players are asleep in another time zone right now. Every entry gives you both numbers, plus the all-time peak, exactly as the chart showed them at 1:43 p.m. These counts come straight from Valve's own systems and refresh every five minutes for the biggest games, so they'll have moved by the time you read this. That's not a flaw in the list. That's the list telling the truth about itself. Jake's full explainer on what this count is — and isn't — is linked at the bottom.

The countdown

10. Team Fortress 2 — 24h peak 106,732 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 105,639 · all-time peak 253,997

Look at those first two numbers. The peak and the live count are nearly the same, which means TF2's crowd doesn't spike, it just shows up, all day, every day. You don't keep a hundred thousand people in a team shooter this old without the game being somebody's permanent second home.

9. Cyberpunk 2077 — 24h peak 113,734 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 102,145 · all-time peak 1,054,388

It's the only single-player story game in this top 10, and it's holding six figures years after launch. No lobby, no teammates, no season pass treadmill — just a giant city people keep moving back into. Watch what that tells you: a big enough world is its own live service.

8. Call of Duty® — 24h peak 133,958 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 115,965 · all-time peak 491,670

This is Steam counting the Call of Duty hub, and even on PC alone — with so much of this franchise's crowd on consoles — it's a permanent top-10 resident. It's not peaking, it's idling at a level most games never reach once. That's what an annual anchor looks like on a live chart.

7. Bongo Cat — 24h peak 145,356 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 89,696 · all-time peak 194,508

Yes, the cat beats Call of Duty on the 24-hour peak. No, we're not explaining it away — a tiny desktop companion that lives on your screen while you do everything else is built to rack up "in game" hours, and 145,356 people at once is 145,356 people at once. The chart counts heads, not effort, and the cat's got heads.

6. AION 2 — 24h peak 193,742 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 189,345 · all-time peak 397,905

It's the newest name in this top 10 and it's already living near the top of it, with a live count almost touching its daily peak — that near-match means the crowd's spread right around the clock, not bunched into one region's evening. New games flare and fade every week. This one's holding a line.

5. Deadlock — 24h peak 209,458 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 184,023 · all-time peak 303,347

Valve's own shooter-moba hybrid sits in the middle of Valve's own chart, pulling a steady two hundred thousand at peak. The live count's close behind the peak, too — this isn't a launch spike cooling off, it's a base. When the friend on the couch tells you "everybody's playing it," for once the chart agrees with him.

4. Phantom Blade Zero — 24h peak 635,161 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 148,793 · all-time peak 833,921

Here's the spikiest line on the page. Its all-time peak — 833,921 at once — landed on November 1, days ago, and even today's daily peak is more than four times the number in game right now. That's a launch-window rocket: enormous at its hours, quieter between them. Don't read the drop as death. Read it as time zones and bedtimes.

3. Dota 2 — 24h peak 677,454 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 637,393 · all-time peak 1,295,114

It's free to play, it's been running for over a decade, and it's still putting nearly 680,000 people into matches at the same moment on a Thursday. The live count hugging the daily peak tells the story — Dota's audience isn't an event, it's a population. Populations don't churn. They persist.

2. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS — 24h peak 789,217 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 247,939 · all-time peak 3,257,248

This is why we ranked by the peak. Right now, at a U.S. Thursday lunchtime, PUBG looks like a quarter-million game. Across the full 24 hours it's a near-800,000 game, because its biggest crowds play on the other side of the world while we're at work. And that all-time peak — 3.26 million at once — is still the biggest Steam has ever seen from any game on this list. Respect the drop.

1. Counter-Strike 2 — 24h peak 1,128,175 · in game at 1:43 p.m.: 1,016,794 · all-time peak 1,862,531

It's not close. Over a million people in game right now, at a weekday lunch hour, and a daily peak clear of 1.1 million. CS2 is free to play and it's the default shooter for half the planet, and those two facts compound daily. Everybody else on this list is fighting for second. The crown isn't contested, it's occupied.

Bea again, for the close. Add it up and the pattern's sitting right there: most of these ten are free to get into or built to be lived in daily, one of them's a cat, and one is a single-player city that refuses to empty. "Most played" doesn't mean newest and it doesn't mean best-selling — Jake's dollar chart is linked below if you want that fight — it means occupied. And at 1:43 p.m. on a Thursday, Steam is a very occupied place. This exact list expires in about five minutes. The shape of it won't. — Bea

Every count from SteamDB's live charts, opened in full at 1:43 p.m. ET on Nov. 5, 2026; the counts come straight from Valve's API, per SteamDB's FAQ.
