GTA VI Launches November 19: Six Dates, One 212 GB Download, and an Awards Deadline Beaten by a Day
Everyone's got November 19 circled. But the launch is a three-week run of dates — an earnings call that has to say the day out loud, a preload the size of a fifth of your PS5, an awards show the game misses by eight days and another it makes by one. In the order they'll hit you, with every number labelled for what it is.

We're in the last stretch. Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — Rockstar's date, confirmed, with no PC version announced. But nobody's launch is one date, and this one is six: an earnings call, a download, two awards shows, a box with no disc in it, and a deadline. Here they are in the order they'll hit you. Where a number comes from a survey or an outside estimate rather than the companies themselves, it says so on its face.
1. Monday, November 9 — Take-Two has to say the date out loud
Take-Two — the company that owns Rockstar — reports its latest earnings after the U.S. stock market closes, with the call at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. There is exactly one question in the room, and it isn't about last quarter.
What to listen for is boring on purpose: the company repeating two things. The launch date, November 19. And its target for the year — $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings (that's its name for the money it expects to take in) for the year ending March 2027. Wall Street's own guess sits slightly above that range, at $8.53 billion, which tells you how much of this launch is already priced in before a single copy sells. The quarter being reported ended September 30 and contains no GTA VI money at all; the company's own guidance for it was $1.62 to $1.67 billion in bookings. If both numbers get restated on the 9th, the plan is intact. That's the whole story of the day — and it's supposed to be.

Keep it free · Buy us a coffee2. Tuesday, November 10 — the 212 GB download starts
Preloading opens — that's downloading the game early so it's ready the second it unlocks. PS5 players can start at midnight, their local time. Xbox players start at one single global moment: 12 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time on November 10, which is 7 p.m. Eastern on the evening of November 9. Same download, two different evenings — check which one is yours before you plan around it.
Clear space first: Rockstar says you'll need up to 212 GB free, depending on the console. For reference, that's roughly a fifth of the storage on a standard PS5, spoken for by one game, a week before it can even be played. Decide what's getting deleted before the 10th, not during it.
3. Wednesday, November 11 — the awards show GTA VI isn't in
The Golden Joystick Awards hand out their trophies in London on November 11. GTA VI cannot win any of them. It comes out eight days after the ceremony, and the public vote closed back on October 30. No drama, no snub — just a calendar doing what calendars do. Keep this show in mind, because three weeks later the exact same situation gets the opposite answer.
4. Thursday, November 12 — the box with no disc in it
The boxed version reaches shops from November 12 — and "boxed" is doing some lifting. There is no disc. Inside is a download code: type it in, and you start the same 212 GB download as everyone else, in time for launch. The box is a present you can wrap. The game is still a download.
5. Thursday, November 19 — launch day
Grand Theft Auto VI, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, playable from midnight local time. No PC version has been announced — if your rig is your main machine, your launch day is a stream-watching day, for now.
Why the confidence is so high this time — and it is measured, not vibes: nearly one in three U.S. console and PC players — 29% — told Circana's PlayerPulse survey they plan to buy it. That's the highest figure Circana has ever recorded for any game, in the survey's whole history, and the company said so itself on October 28. It is stated intent, not sales, and it is labelled that way here. One tracker, Sensor Tower, estimates about 7.7 million copies were already pre-ordered by November 4, worth roughly $751 million. That one is an outside estimate, not Rockstar's number — nobody official has published a pre-order total — but even the cautious version of this launch is enormous.

6. Friday, November 20, 9 p.m. Pacific — the deadline GTA VI beats by a day
This is the quietest date on the list and the one that decides December. The Game Awards' own rules say a game must be on sale by this moment to be up for this year's awards. GTA VI launches November 19 — roughly a day inside the line. Eligible. Fully. For everything.
Versus November 11, same game, opposite result: the Joysticks' calendar shut it out; The Game Awards' calendar lets it in by about twenty-four hours. Awards season for the biggest game of the year will be argued about for longer than some games take to finish.
Two honest cautions come with that ticket. Being eligible isn't being nominated — the nominees, announced sometime in mid-November, are picked by a jury of over 100 outlets, and The Game Awards hasn't published an exact announcement date. And the jury still has to actually play the thing: fan voting doesn't close until December 9 at 6 p.m. Pacific, winners are decided 90% by the jury and 10% by fans, and the show itself is Thursday, December 10 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, streaming free from 7:30 p.m. Eastern. There's also one fan-voted category, Players' Voice, with a later cutoff of November 30 — the deepest bench GTA VI gets.
So the season, end to end: earnings on the 9th, download on the 10th, a show it misses on the 11th, a box on the 12th, the launch on the 19th, a deadline beaten on the 20th, and a verdict on December 10. Do the one thing that's actually in your control: clear the space and start the download on the 10th. Everything after that is just showing up.
